About Us
Overview
The National Population Council (NPC) was established by the National Population Council, Act 1994 (Act 485) to advise Government on all population matters. The NPC is the highest statutory body set up to advice Government on the population and related issues. The NPC is a parastatal body located in the office of the President.
Mandate of Council
The council has the following mandate:
Recommend for government consideration such as policies or changes in the population policy as it may deem necessary.
Interpret and review from time to time the population policy of the country and advice government accordingly, taking into consideration the political, economic, socio-cultural and legal realities of the country.
Represent and/or advice government on the means of generating internal and external resources and their co-ordination to support the implementation of the population policy and programme. Guide and promote the implementation of comprehensive population programme, which should be integrated within the framework of the development policy of the country.
Set operational targets for programme performance and expected impact and recommend strategies for their attainment.
Ensure the full participation of the private sector in attaining the set of population targets/goals. Co-ordinate and monitor population programmes of other organisations both public and private within the country.
Function in any other ways that would promote sustainable population programmes and activities in order to improve the well-being of the people of Ghana.

Mrs. Angelina Kodua Nyanor

Mrs. Kodua-Nyanor brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to this pivotal role. she is a highly accomplished professional with a Master of Public Health and a BA in Sociology from the University of Ghana.Her career is marked by significant contributions to population health,reproductive health and child health,with a particular foocus on HIV/AIDS programming.

Mrs. Kodua-Nyanor brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to this pivotal role. She is a highly accomplished professional with a Master of Public Health and a BA in Sociology from the University of Ghana, her career is marked by significant contributions to population health, reproductive health, and child health, with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS programming.
Mrs. Kodua-Nyanor’s extensive experience and proven track record in policy development and international collaboration uniquely position her to advance NPC’s vision of creating a sustainable population that supports equitable socio-economic development and improves the quality of life for all Ghanaians, as well as its mission to promote, coordinate, and monitor population policies and programs through evidence-based strategies, stakeholder collaboration, and innovative interventions.
She will lead efforts towards addressing Ghana’s demographic challenges, such as population growth, ageing, and urbanization, while spearheading initiatives to enhance access to quality reproductive health services, ensuring gender equity and healthier outcomes for women and children.
Mrs. Kodua-Nyanor’s proven success in partnering with organizations like USAID, FHI360, and John Snow Inc. showcases her ability to forge impactful collaborations. She will strengthen NPC’s ties with local and international stakeholders to enhance resource mobilization and program implementation. Leveraging her international development expertise, she will position NPC as a leader in innovative population management strategies, advocating for Ghana’s priorities on global platforms in alignment with sustainable development goals.
Mrs. Kodua-Nyanor is poised to lead NPC in advancing sustainable population policies, fostering innovative strategies, and strengthening collaborations to address Ghana’s demographic challenges.
